Battle of Britain Service for RAF Portreath in Cornwall held at Illogan Church on 10th September 2003. The new 10 Group ROCA Standard was paraded. Standard Bearer was ex post member Obs David Bray. Sixteen local Standards were present and the CO of RAF Portreath, Flight Lieutenant Anne Clarke, in her address, made reference to the presence of the ROCA Standard.
After the Church Service a very moving ceremony was held at the war memorial in the graveyard where there are many RAF gravestones of those killed in action from RAF Portreath and RAF Perranporth in WWII. The Curate of Illogan Church is Yvonne Bailey shown above with David Bray and the ROCA Standard behind and right.
"On 6th October 2003 No 10 Group ROCA presented to Plymouth City a framed portrait of the Queen, this being a print of the painting commissioned by the ROC in 1988, the original of which was hung in the Ladies Anteroom at the Officer's Mess, Bentley Priory. Since the closure of the Corps the print was in need of a good home and it was thought fitting to present this to the City of Plymouth. Photo shows from left to right, the Mayor's Lady, Tony Child Chairman of 10 Group ROCA, Mike Davis Secretary of 10 Group ROCA, Mayor of Plymouth Cllr David Stark and Plymouth Branch member Barbara Baker".
"On November 5th 2003 Radio 4 Presenter Dylan Winter came to Cornwall to interview Joe and Sheila James and Lawrence Holmes for a new series to be broadcast on Radio 4 in the New Year called 'Bunkers'. Radio 4 has an estimated audience of 1.4M listeners. He interviewed wartime observer Joe James at the old Helston Post site and Sheila at the Lizard Post site. Afterwards he travelled to Veryan Post where he interviewed Lawrence about the Corps' nuclear role. Photo immediately below shows Dylan and Lawrence at Veryan Post and lowest photo shows Joe, Sheila and Lawrence at the Lizard Post site".
