A former Group Training Officer of Bedford Group, Sandy Stewart, passed away during the night of 11 / 12 October 2006, coming after a short illness.
Sandy was a Highland Scotsman, a fact about which he was so very proud. It was in the North of Scotland that he joined the ROC, to become an Observer in the Inverness Group. He moved into full time duties and the first appointment brought him to Bedford. Professionalism, dedication and thoughtfulness were rewarded by great respect from all members. During the time at Bedford he and his family resided in Ampthill. On promotion Sandy became Deputy Group Commandant at Winchester. A career move to ROCHQ at Bentley Priory followed and also a spell at Southern Area H Q at Rudlow manor.
Retirement brought a complete change as Sandy became a successful breeder of Highland Ponies and produced several champions. Residing at Lyng in Norfolk, he was very much involved in the Highland Pony world, once more highly respected, he organised shows, was a judge and president of local societies.
The cremation ceremony was at the Horsham St. Faith. Among those attending the funeral were representatives from the Bedford and Norwich ROCA.
Photograph was taken at Castle Acre on 02jun06.
