On 13th December Alex, aged 81, died in Bodmin Hospital, Cornwall. The funeral was held at Glyn Valley Crematorium near Bodmin on 21st December.

At his own request, his ashes are to be scattered on his parents' grave in Darlington.
As a large number of Alex's friends and former colleagues could not attend his funeral, a memorial service will be held at Harrowgate Hill Methodist Church, Lowson Street, Darlington at 1.00pm on Monday 4th April 2005.
