Bedford Reunion 2005

"Honorary Life Membership awarded to Joyce.

To mark her outstanding contribution to Bedford Group we are delighted to announce that former Group Chairman Joyce Shrubbs MBE has accepted the Committee’s invitation to receive Honorary Life Membership of 7 Group ROCA.

Joyce joined the ROC during WW2 as a plotter in Bedford Centre from where through hard work and skill she achieved the highest rank possible and ended her service only when forced to do so after stand down. At that time she was serving as Assistant Commandant.

Her service with the ROC Association, as a former Chairman of this Group & also National Chairman, has covered almost twenty more years on top of those she gave in uniform. Joyce is one of our three serving Vice Presidents and also Keeper of the National Standard, paying meticulous attention in ensuring that it is paraded with due regard for it’s status alongside those of other organisations. In addition she has held high office at local and County levels of the Royal British Legion.

Following the re-development of the former Group Headquarters site in Biddenham Joyce organised the Dedication Service and the unveiling of the Commemorative Plaque now firmly in place on the site. She was instrumental too in persuading the local council to name the private cul-de-sac “Observer Close”.

Her dedication in all that she does has served us well for a great many years and we are ever hopeful that her spirit and enthusiasm will continue to inspire others for many more years to come. "
